You Call It Speed Riding. I Call It Cutting the Lift Line
Man, the things people will do to avoid lift lines.
Check out these two guys. They’re not waiting in line behind ski bunnies trying to get to another lift line halfway up a mountain. They’d rather rent a helicopter. They’re ski riding.
Ski riding is dangerous. Wikipedia says that 25 people have died while speed riding in the last 10 years when they faceplanted at 90 MPH or so, or fell off a cliff, or forgot to pack a lunch, or whatever.
They say 25 people died like it’s a bad thing. They’re not giving you the whole story. They don’t compare it to the number of regular skiers who freeze to death waiting for the North Ridge triple chair at Killington. I don’t have exact figures for that, but I did take my glove off there once, and wished I hadn’t. Same thing.
