90 year-old pole vaulter Dr. William Bell of Arkansas is the world record holder for pole vaulting in his age group. His son won an Olympic medal in the pole vault in 1984.

  1. The secret is to live to be 90 and be able to do anything at all and you can probably be a record holder at it in your age group. I once was in a grueling foot race (11 miles of mountains through woods to the ocean) and took second place in my age group. I was in my mid 40’s and there were only 2 of us in that age group to finish. So hang in there – eventually you will win.
