  1. That’s about as real as it gets – sometimes you have to go up stairs in pitch black to do a rescue. I’ve been in that position twice in my volunteer days – it’s dark, it’s scary, you lose track of time (no joke – that’s why the Scott Airpak’s have alarms on them), but in the end it’s worth it if you save a life.

    Proud of those guys – they did good.

    In case anybody is wondering, the reason the officer checked the back first before using the front entrance was to check for quick entry. In that case, he had an entry, but it would have taken too long to access – in particular where the second engine company was coming in that direction to vent the roof. So he opted for the front door using his 2″ hose handler for suppression, cool the ceiling down and do the rescue.
