And, his first move was to check the camera.
Do you get the feeling, like me, that men are losing their mojo fast, now that you are older and not in the mix? It is a failing of mine that I want to reach in this video and slap the ice out of this guy’s head for holding the axes wrong. That’s why he fell.
In my day we learned the basics of where to hold the tools, and why. Well, this video shows why. Proper self belay with the tools would’ve adhered him to his stance.
Okay, while I’m ranting, I’ll tell of the time I was above 6,000 feet of vertical on a north face, downclimbing on friable nuggets of volcanic rock. No rope because there was no place for protection. The guy above me sent a rock smack onto my helmet with a thud. I stayed put. We laughed.
When I watch this I have to remind myself that he was intending to go up! Something went terribly wrong along the way. lorraine
I thought the whole idea was to go up slowly, not down rapidly.
