Greatest Hits! Or Misses! Or Something

Greatest Hits! Or Misses! Or Something

Reader Mark Barsocchini sent this one along, thinking it has BSBFB written all over it. True dat. I think we’ve run each of these clips, one at a time. They’re mostly dumb fun — the best kind; the last one is the only true badass one, though. Enjoy.

  1. This left off the genuinely most awesome jump ever: Yuri Gagarin. On re-entry from his first space mission, he ejected from a tumbling meteor at 21,000 feet.

And then the Russians kept it secret for forty years because they were afraid it might mean the first-ever spaceflight didn’t qualify under the rules of the international aviation association.

That’s right, they were afraid he might be disqualified for something which made the flight even more incredibly awesome.

  2. An excellent addition. I remember reading something about an airman in WWII that jumped out of a crashing bomber without a parachute, and lived. Have to go find it.

    Thanks for reading and commenting.

  3. Seems to me I read that too…he landed in a big fir or pine tree whose branches decelerated him without totally wrecking his body.
