McBain II: You Have the Right to Remain Dead

I used to watch a lot of the Simpsons when I was growing up. It came on after Third Rock From the Sun, but before Seinfeld, and it was really the only show I was interested in. I haven’t seen very much of it lately, but from what I can tell I’m not missing very much. One of the main things I liked about early Simpsons episodes were the McBain shorts that were scattered around like little treats every season. I vividly remember telling my mother that I would watch a McBain movie if they made one. I feel as if a great burden has been lifted off of me now that I’ve seen the full McBain movie. Lovingly crafted on a shoestring budget of three gummy bears and a single can of Pepsi, The Simpsons Split and Run is by far his finest work. Look at the detail in each shot. You won’t see anything like this on the big screen. Stanley Kubrick, eat your heart out.

I still have trouble fathoming the awesomeness of the soundtrack. Stayin In Black is so utterly hip it’s going to need a hip replacement to handle its own hipness. If it got any cooler it would cause another ice age. It’s so sweet you’ll get diabetes if you listen to it for too long.

They’re staying alive, man, what more could you ask for?
