Some real seamanship there, but there was also a bit of insanity.
the first and most important requirement to doing any difficult job is a MENTAL one. once you’ve committed mentally to the uncomfortable, the dirty, the smelly, or the cold and wet everything else is third. the secondary is the willingness to do it all day till the end of it.
this was naturally something that i didn’t arrive at on my own. i’ve worked to any number of hard men. by any measure i’m pretty much a weakling but with mental commitment and determination i’ll out work more muscular men who lack these.
The Captain did what he had to. The lady with the roller luggage boarding? She was dodging sea-planing autos and big waves to get on board! That’s insane or courageous; you decide.
In Seattle, we wait for the de-boarders to clear off first. Seems prudent.
Yes and I despise that deballed attitude amongst my fellow Seattlites. Go for it sez moi.
As for the captain and the crew this clearly was not their first day on the job.
