Harley-Davidson WL. The Cure For Rommel
The Harley-Davidson WLA/WLC
Harley-Davidson, on the eve of World War II, was already supplying the Army with a military-specific version of its 45″ WL line, called the WLA. (The A in this case stood for “Army”.) Upon the outbreak of war, the company, along with most other manufacturing enterprises, shifted to war work. Over 90,000 military motorcycles, mostly WLAs and WLCs (the Canadian version) would be produced, many to be provided to allies. Harley-Davidson received two Army-Navy āEā Awards, one in 1943 and the other in 1945, which were awarded for Excellence in Production. (Wikipedia)

Nice Blog!!!
Thanks For Great Information .
I went to Sturgis in ’91, and there was a WWII vet who had his uniform, and a beautifully restored WLA that he had ridden out to one of the many bike shows going on out there. Awesome sight.
HD also made an XLA model with an opposed twin just like the German made BMW. Very rare beast, but they do exist.
JWM
Wow. Now that’s a motorcycle.
No front brake, a suicide clutch, a center-stand suitable for only the committed, and a fire extinguisher.
Oof.
