Dayum! That’s just like the track at Sam’s Miniature Gran Prix that was a ten minute walk from my house. We didn’t have the steering wheels, though. Just a rheostat that got hot as hell after a few minutes. I remember saving up money for an American made Pitman 706 motor, only to get my butt kicked by kids with the Russkit Mabuchi tin cans. So I got a Mabuchi powered racer, and bought a three volt armature to put in it. The damn thing threw a wind on the test track, and the cheap bastard at Sam’s wouldn’t give me my money back. We didn’t need ties, though.
JWM
They’ve got a track like this at a local mall here – I might need to take the boys over to it.
My Dad built me a track for these cars back in ’66. I still have it in the basement, but all the copper has come off the tracks. 12 fewet long with 25 degree banked corners.
I don’t even want to think about the hours he put into that track with a circular saw and a Black and Decker jigsaw.
We had one of these in the town that I grew up in – spent quite a few hours doing this sort of thing in the mid 1970’s. And yes, we wore ties.
