You Can Tell It’s New Zealand Because They’re Upside Down And Falling Off The Earth

Farm Jam: “The Frew family built an amazing dirt bmx and motocross track complete with wonderland jump in their rural backyard in beautiful New Zealand. Every year riders from near and far travel here for a day of riding like no other.”

(Thanks to all-around good guy Charles Schneider for sending that one along)

World’s Only Cool Bicycle Helmet

Jonathan Summerfield built a “pennyfarthing,” a version of the first bicycles. They called it a pennyfarthing because the big wheel in the front with a much smaller trailing wheel looked like a British penny next to a British farthing coin. Like so, from Wikipedia:

Between 2006 and 2008, Jonathan cycled 22,000 miles on his machine, visiting 22 countries along the way. He has a profoundly unattractive white-text-on-black-background webpage with lot’s of apostrophe’s here and there that’s fun to poke around in. His running journal summary is kind of a hoot, with Pythonesque “My knees gave out — again,” anecdotes over and over. He never did burn and crash into the swamp, though.

Listen, lad. I built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started
here, all there was was swamp. Other kings said I was daft to build a
castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank
into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So
I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the
swamp. But the fourth one... stayed up! And that's what you're gonna get,
lad: the strongest castle in these islands.
