Miniature Nazis Better Look Out: 19 Foot Long Working B-17
Oh, dear. They’re all speaking German. Oh well, you know the Germans always make good stuff. They should all know what the bottom of the plane looks like, anyway.
Very well-organized and thorough Flickr set of the construction.
(Many thanks to Herr Van der Leun at Amerikanisch Magazin for sending that one along)

She was an Art Deco beauty. Beat the wads out of the neo-classic crap that the Nazis fielded.
Except I wonder if Seattelites could make these, now? And, if they could, would they show this much enthusiasm for the toy? My compliments to these guys for their heart and skill.
In all fairness, I have to say that on occasion in Seattle, or Spokane, you can see an actual Flying Fortress cruise over the city. If you’re not moved by that sight, you are dead inside.
Here’s the “real” one:

The uncle I am named after lost his life during WWII when he went down on a B-17

You’re absolute right, Casey. I am fortunate to live a mile off the end of the runway where the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force flies the Sentimental Journey. I can frequently see WWII flying over my head while I am out mowing my yard.
azlibertarian: I was fortunate enough to visit that museum when they had the Sentimental Journey open to “walk” through. I could’ve spent the day there (the folks were nice enough), but The Lad just wanted to get back to the pool…
I was a schoolkid, staying with my uncle near Cambridge, England, in 1969.
Flights of Spitfires,Hurricanes, Messerschmitts, Heinkels, thundering over the house, twisting trails of dogfights in the sky.
At the far side of Duxford aerodrome, there was a french chateau, tall and wide, but only a sheet of plywood in thickness. German pilots lounged in front of it, while mechanics worked on the messerschmitts.
